크리스마스에 아버지께서 이 책을 주셨다. 정치에 무관심을 넘어, "정치인은 모두 쓸어서 한강에 처넣어야 할 족속들"이라는 의견을 오세훈 시장의 딸의 중학교때 선생님과 공유하는 나로서는, 분명히 아들을 생각하셔서 좋은 의도로 주셨을 것이 확실한 책을 받으면서도 "네 아버지 고맙습니다"라고 선뜻 인사를 못드렸다. 오세훈. 얼굴 반드르르해서 여성 지지층이 많은 서울시장. 변호사. 한나라당. 현 이명박 대통령과 유사한 정치여정. 차기 대권주자중 하나로 손꼽히는 사람. 이정도가 내가 오세훈에 대해 가지고 있는 생각의 100%였다. 그리고 내 앞에 놓아진, 분명히 자화자찬 일색이 틀림없을 책 한권.

결론은, 크리스마스 때 읽고 본가에 놓고 오려던 책이 지금 내 옆에도 있다는 것이다. 자화자찬일색인 책이라는 것은 맞지만, 뭐랄까... 책에 지성과 감성이 녹아 있다고나 할까? 책 뒷표지의 추천글인 '미래 지향적인 생각과 사람을 향하는 따뜻한 마음'에 어느정도 동감하게 된다.
사람이 똑똑한 것은 맞고, 일차적으로는 따뜻한 것도 맞다. 지켜 보아야 할 사람이다. 그러나 서울시장, 대통령이라 하면 작은 정에 연연하기 보다는 보다 다른 차원이 요구되는데, 오세훈 시장이 그런 깜냥이 될 지는 지켜보는 수 밖에. 이 책에서 "공감과 배려의 능력" 및 "인문학의 중요성"을 설파하는 그. 저돌적, 끈기, 의지, 고난극복 등만을 강조한 다른 많은 정재계 사람들과는 다른 것은 확실하다. 부디 정치꾼이 아닌 정치가가 되기를 바래본다. 어찌되었건 이 대한민국의 leader중 한 명이니까.

복잡한 듯 하지만 화살표가 눈을 끄는, 책표지도 독특했다.

Oh Se-Hoon is current mayor of Seoul since 2006. He has soft and intelligent image, which distinguishes him from politicians so far with cruel and mean images. As a mayor, I think he has done quite well until now. However, he doesn't seem to be think of nation-wide politics, that is, he speaks for Seoul citizens only as far as I see. President Lee Myung-Bak favors concentration over balanced distribution. In consequence people away from capitol have a negative tendency to him. But Oh Se-Hoon backs him up. The question is: Why? Because President Lee's global vision is same to his one? Because Oh welcomes Lee's Seoul-favored policies? Or Oh views Lee as his role model who succeeds in grabbing the topmost seat after governing Seoul? Or Lee is a major supporter of Oh? Who knows? One thing for sure (at least to me) is that he speaks for Seoul.

From this book, I can see Oh is a sharp man. He has a vision for Seoul to grow to a global city with a strong brand power. He has a belief in his own way of life. He is logical and presents his idea well. He has a will and he realizes the will; he is a man of action. These all thing could bond and have a chemistry enough to make his wish come true. Important thing is that what is his wish. If just becoming a president is the one, I'd be very disappointed. I hope his wish was real politics; to communicate with people and to lead people into the better world, making our nation glorious and prosperous. Glorious and prosperous - this words are not American exclusives. I hope HO could live in prosperous Korea.
