You should re-work your _work_, say the authors. They say "simple" and "action" is most important thing in business, and in any aspects of our lives. Simple means not wasting a singe bit of anything, that is, resource, money, and time, into useless things. So keep it simple, whatever it is a plan, meeting, organization, or objectives. And move! Traditional management principles are only for those who're big and traditional. If you are small or in 21century job, like software development or any other, you should not blindly follow the old how-tos. Totally agreed.

I'm thinking of reading their previous book, Getting Real.

Bruce Judson의 Go-it-alone과 상통하는 이야기를 풀어낸 책. Ruby on Rails로도 유명한 저자들의 회사인 37signals는 작고 효율적인 회사이다. 저자는 "우리가 약 10년동안 작은 회사를 꾸려냈는데, 그 이야기를 나누고 싶다. 우리는 우리의 방식이 맞다고 생각하거든." 라고 이야기하고 있는 것이고, 그 방식이란 결국 작은 조직 (Go it alone은 그 극단이다)이 가지는 것이 큰조직에 비해 불리한것만이 아니며, 도리어 굉장한 잇점으로 다가서게 된다는 것이다. 그러나 대부분의 경영원칙들은 일정 규모 이상을 이루어낸 조직들에 의해 주장되고 있고 당연히 비효율적인 점이 있는데, 작은 조직이 그 원칙을 비판없이 받아들이게 된다면 장점은 잃고 단점만 받아들이게 되므로 그를 주의해야한다는 것이다.

업종을 공유하는 자로서, 이미 성공한 그들의 이야기는 공감과 동시에 부러움을 자아낸다. A small and powerful team. 나도 그걸 원했던 거였어...
