69년생 일본 청년의 26세부터 33세까지의 자전거 세계일주 이야기. 어려서 세계일주를 계획한 이후 치밀히 준비하여 떠난 여행은 원래 삼년 반 목표였지만 하다보니 칠년 반의 세계일주가 되었다. 알래스카에서우수아이아까지 아메리카 대륙 종단, 그 후 피요르드부터 희망봉까지 유럽과 아프리카 종단, 다시 런던부터 일본까지 실크로드를 경유하는 유럽과 아시아 횡단. 그 열정에 경탄하였고, 또한 그러한 여행자가 저자 말고도 상당히 많다는 사실에 더욱 놀랐다. 여행이 수 일이 넘어가면 바로 집으로 돌아가고 싶어지는 나로서는 "7년간", "세계일주", "자전거로"의 여행이 저자에게 가져다 주었을 성장의 양이 막연히 부럽게 느껴진다. 하지만 실상은 그것이 어떤 경험이었을 지 짐작조차 못하는 것이다.

아래는 지은이가 가장 좋아했던 모뉴먼트 밸리. 역시 사진으로는 감동의 양을 짐작할 수 없다.

While one reads the book "Around the World in Eighty Days" and dreams about world trip, the other has prepared the trip and sets off his journey. Dream is a good thing, but it's meaningless without doing. Since Ishida Yousuke met the book in his middle school days, he grew his dream and prepared the journey. Finally he resigned his job and set off to discover worlds only with his bicycle. It's been more than seven years to complete the journey. Experiences in journey is a thing hard to describe in words. The author might not be good as a travel writer. But he is a super traveler, definitely. He've done 7 year wild journey!! The most important thing we can see in this book might be his will power to complete his journey, not spectacular spots like Monument Valleys or the Pyramids in Tikal he regarded as the world best spots.
